G'day how you going today?

On the Sunday Program on Channel 9 (free to air) in Sydney, Australia it had a program on the Regulation of Sale Bill they are trying to get passed in Parliament specifically the ceasing of animals sold in Pet Stores. We are a country of 22 million people and we are putting down 350 dogs a day. Clover Moore, the Mayor for Sydney who is trying to get the bill passed has the support of Rescue Animal Shelters, Businesses and Channel 9 and various other groups to promote the bill. However, the pet industry in Australia is very big and as you can imagine there is a lot of opposition from them and the Veterinary Association, and various other players. The show featured, Clover Moore, Monica Biernacki of Doggierescue.com, Debra Tranter from Animal Liberation, some rep from both the Petshop Industry and the RSPCA. It showed footage of Puppy Farms in Victoria that were closed down in 2006, RSPCA are prosecuting two of these farms. It showed allegedly well run Puppy Farm operated by the Ham (?) Family. But it was very clear in pointing out that the Australian Canine Council breeders do not sell their pups to the petshops. All petshop puppies and cats come from these farms. It was upsetting to watch it - if you want to see part 1 and 2 it can be seen on ninemsn.com.au and then follow the links.
