This is for a comparison...... is it acceptable and/or safe to clean pets teeth without anesthesia. First read the info from the AMERICAN VETERINARY DENTAL COLLEGE This is a direct download of a PDF/Adobe Acrobat file......... AVDC on Dental scaling without anesthesiaThe Comparison page disappeared ! But it was supposed to be at PatsPaws.com It is possible that pressure was put on her to stop doing it and take down the site and info, as it is considered medical practice. Read something about that. So, I would do a search for dental scaling without anesthesia and see what you come up with.

Talk about confusing to us as pet owners! I have spoken with many pet owners and breeders on the various lists I belong to and own myself. Many do much of their own dental care and also take there dogs every so often to have it done with anesthesia at some point.
Some just brush............ and then later on take their pets in for a dental cleaning at the vets office with the normal anesthesia.
Some have said that because their pets eat raw, they never have to have their teeth cleaned.
Some tell me that they do their own pets teeth cleaning with scrapers and describe how in detail.
Some say one should never do that because the bacteria they may swallow is dangerous to their hearts.
Some say that it is better to get it off oneself, if one can not or would rather not put the pet under a cleaning at the vets, rather then to wait and have it cause major mouth infections which can then affect the kidneys!
Some say it is no big deal to do and and others say it is very difficult. I guess that would depend on the pet and the owners patience, proper tools, proper lighting .
For me.........I brush Lil-Lea's teeth now with PETZLIFE GEL. Not near as much as I should! But, I do it! And I also removed several huge pieces of PLAQUE from all 4 of her back teeth.......and I made sure that I removed them from her mouth and threw them away so she did not swallow them... But, I only did one at a time, so I could do that.....and it did not sit in her mouth at all.....I removed each piece as it popped off.
So, is this another way (like over vaccinating) which *some* in the veterinary profession, are using to try to scare us, into doing, to make more money?
We do know there is bacteria in out dogs mouth and especially if the teeth are covered in plaque etc. So, is leaving it in there from year to year or more to affect the kidneys or whatever, better than removing it ourselves~
I don't know anyone who is going to have their dogs teeth cleaned every 6 months or even every year! I certainly am not going to. I could not afford it, for one thing. I am looking at every 3 years, perhaps........
I am hoping though that if the PETZLIFE does the job that I am told it does........ and if I can get under her gums to scrap the tarter off, with the scraper.........that I may not have to do that....
Love to hear all your thoughts and also any first hand experiences you have had.....~
