Feline Positive Cats can live a long happy life with little or no affects of this. They need to be kept inside and can be adopted into a home with other FLP cats or in a home as the only cat or in a household with a dog. PLEASE- PLEASE- CROSS POST THIS and HELP US FIND ADOPTIVE HOMES so these little ones will have a chance at life.
This is an interesting story. It can be considered successful in one sense and not successful in another.
My husband , my neighbor and myself trapped 5 feral kittens and the feral mother. She has been having kittens for 6 years~ Last year I managed to catch one and turned it over to a rescue in Virginia Beach, who still has it as a mascot as it never really tamed down.
This year we decided that we had to become much more active with this situation. Rick and I hand caught 3 kittens, several days a part. He caught 1, then he caught another one as we worked together on that one, and then I caught one alone. Mama immediately moved the other two~
Two weeks later (after we waited patiently for her to bring them back (we did try to trap them when wee found where she moved them) my neighbor managed to trap one on one night and the other the following morning!~ So, we have all 5 now.
Days later, the neighbor was able to get mama into a kennel with food. For almost a week prior to 9/11/08. she sat in the cage in my house and starting at 10pm howled all night, every night !
I have been working with the Chesapeake Cat Rescue and they have been giving the kittens their shots and wormings.
Our neighbor and ourselves donated $25.00 each to the spaying of Mama , who we had then planned to release after her recovery ! On Sept 11th, I took her in to be spayed and she tested positive for Feline Leukemia, so I had her put down. A very, very sad day, but she was in no way ever going to be able to be an indoor cat ! She was wild and wrecked her cage every night and howled all night........
On October 13th there is an appointment to have the 5 feral kittens (4male and one female) spayed and they will test them at that time.
They can now be handled, 3 of which are really playful (the first 3 caught) and the other two are coming around. And they are so cute (see video)
We are sure that some, if not all may test positive for Leukemia because the Mom was. If they do, and we can not find a home to take them, we will have the hard task of having them put down. Please, please, cross post this everywhere. WE NEED HOMES~~~ The Adoption Fee is $85.00 which covers all their shots (including rabies), and neutering.

You have your hands full with the kittens. They are very beautiful bubs aren't they. I can see why people never really want to give them up. You sound tired on the tape and no wonder - it's a 24/7 job looking after your brood. No wonder lil-lea's nose is a little out of joint with the noise. It must be a real singalong at your house.

As an animal communicator I know how important our perspective is with the animals. These are wonderful, loving animals who have tested positive for leukimia. There are perfect homes for these animals. When in the middle of all that you are dealing with it is hard to not see the leukimia first and that it is an impediment to a wonderful life. All animal beings are created perfect. I aplogize if I sound like I am preaching it is not my intent. I had a wonderful dog that developed cancer in her nose and I was lost in her disease. When I was guided to still see and treat her as my Moxie who had the cancer and not see the cancer first, she improved and lived four more years. If interested I can send you to an article on perspective. This is my first entry into a forum and although well meaning I pray you know my intent is pure. I send you support to the great job you are doing.

I am exhausted. At almost 66 now, and with fibromyalgia and other issues which go with it, this is a monumental task for me. Oct 13th is on Monday and I am a wreck. I am having nightmares! Last night I had a nightmare that I took the kittens in a car ride for some reason and had to get out of the car and forgot to roll up the windows enough and three of them escaped! The last two I caught and Paulie, one of the first ones.
I was unable to get back to the lot where they escaped after I went to get food to entice them. The lot where they were was near a K-mart somewhere and I woke up before I ever recaptured them. Since I h ave night terrors when I sleep, this was a milder dream, but such a disturbing one! I am petrified that these babies are going to test positive and there is nothing which I can do other then to have the PTS! There is no one to take them if they do not come out negative. I am a wreck.
Last night I was crying because I wanted to pick them up and hold them so badly, but I am an emotional wreck. Whenever I change their cages and litters, I hold each one and love on it and cry!
The closer this gets, the worse I am dealing with it and my neighbor, who already has her limit of cats, (some from the mother of this litter) can't take any either.
I am just a emotional wreck waiting to happen ! <sigh>

I am not a person who takes things personally, even when berated, so don't worry about that :) Your post was very nice and I understand what you are saying.
The kittens have not, as yet, tested positive for Leukemia. Only the Mom has and was PTS as there was no home for a highly feral Mama cat who was not going to be tamed and I could not release her back out there.
The kittens are due to be fixed on October 13th (Monday) and at that time they will do a batch test and if anything throws a positive, they will then test them individually. If you read the post I posted to Marge, above, you will see that I am a basket case.
Many people, keep telling me there are *perfect homes* for these babies, but no one offers to take them or tells me where I can take them to save their lives. I do not see the Leukemia at all. I could care less, actually and if I were not almost 66 years old and living in a mobile home, or if I lived in the country somewhere, I would just have just had them all fixed and released them after. But, I am in no position to keep them and have no place to keep them!
My age, lack of physical stamina, lack of space, lack of finances and mobile home park rules here, are the issues. The managers are being very nice to me and allowing me to foster these kittens until they are placed or have to be put down and are not complaining because I helped to elevate the proliferation of more stray cats having litters around here.
So, if you know of someone who will take and foster Leukemia positive kittens, please do let me know, and I will put them in touch with the rescue who is funding their care and they make arrangements with the rescue. Other than that, there is nothing I can do with no resources.
If they come up negative, no problems! They will be going to Pet Smart every Saturday for adoption, or until there is an opening in one of their cages there.
I have uploaded more videos in the original post, and I am still uploading some, trying to catch up.

I am so relieved! I could not wait to get then out of that vets office! They are now fully vetted and ready to go to the Pet Smart Adoption on Saturday. Not sure about taking the Female as she had to be glued, but the males are ready and not sure about the last two males either , only because they are two weeks behind in being handled by humans and are just coming around now, ever so slowly.
One of them just plain does not like to be held and the other still hisses a bit and is not really fond of being held either. Not sure yet if it is just because they are not *humanized* completely yet though.
But they had their pain meds this morning and the incisions all look fine so far.
Did you have a good sleep the night of the afternoon you found out that they were negative that is very important for you to sleep.
You'll need a holiday now.

I thought I would give you all an update them all. As you may remember, or read above, the mother tested positive for Feline L, and was put down because there was no where for her to go, and she was not going to tame down either.
October 13th was the D-Day for the 5 kittens to be tested. I pushed it as far as I could. I was a wreck ! I took them in and left them and cried all the way home because almost everyone, including some rescues, told me that if Mom was positive, then the chances are that all the kittens would be also. When more than half the day went by, and I did not hear anything, I started calling and calling and finally they answered and told me, "Oh, they are fine and all of them were negative and have had their surgeries already and are ready to go home." I cried all the way there to get them and all the way home, with happiness.
Oct 18th I took them to PetSmart and stayed all day. No adoptions for my 5 yet!
On Saturday, 25th, the female, Winkie, was adopted and I left Paulie there in a triple cage with another nice kitty. Went back Sunday and he was still there. Another, Prentice, will go in the cage next Saturday, and complete the 3 in the triple cage (unless he or Paulie get adopted), so I will have two left here.
I won't take those too Saturday (Halloween weekend) because they are both mostly black and some sick people sacrifice them, usually on Halloween eve, which would be Friday, but I am taking no chances. They are staying home on Saturday and I will take those two the following weekend.
So, between my age (65), my Physical limitations, lots of work changing 3 cages and three litter pans, two other cats and a poodle DIVA to take care of, and, oh yes, a husband, LOL , and my house related chores etc, and oh yes......... roofers here off and on for several weeks putting on half a new roof, I am just now beginning to slow down and get back to sewing my bows and grooming Lil-lea on time as well as trying to catch up with emails and my forum and lists.
To say that I am elated that we are finding these fur babies homes, is an understatement. Right now we have a case of kennel cough with the three here, which I am assuming they picked up from PetSmart, but I'll take that any day... as opposed to what it could have been!
LEAVING PAULIE AT PETSMART 10/25/08 {sniff, sniff) I did cry too !

Paulie was adopted Saturday, (November 01, 2008) and I left Prentice there now, in his place. Here is the PetSmart Adoption yesterday with all the cats up for adoption. You can see Prentice back in the left hand corner of his cage, hiding, when we go into the cats room.

Pablo will be the next one to stay at PetSmart as soon as Prentice is adopted. In the meantime, I will be taking both Pablo and Pookie to Petsmart next Sunday and then every Saturday until there is an opening for them at Petsmart, unless one of them gets adopted in the mean time.
