Alternative pet food sales rocket in US

19 Aug 2008 By Mary Clarke

Retail sales of alternative pet foods, including raw, frozen, organic and natural products, are growing at a significantly faster rate than the market as a whole in the US and Canada, according to research carried out by Packaged Facts. The analyst said the key driver of growth between 2003 and 2007 was the increasing belief among consumers that better quality foods offer pet health benefits.

Pamela,

I am sure you don't find this surprising after all these reports that are now emerging about food and chemical content in products and substitution of cheaper chemicals and fillers all this stuff made overseas. Even food for human consumption is under question. All these foods made overseas in countries like China, Thailand, Korea. I am glad in many ways we continue to follow our eating pattern with Oscar even though I am sure I have bald patches all over my head from pulling my hair out with him. If the peoples don't believe he is 13 years old then we are doing something right. The other thing is in the next life - I hope I am looked after like he is.

Marg

Hi Marg,

Not only do I not find it surprising, I am elated ! I want the Commercial Pet Food Companies to HAVE TO PRODUCE a quality food to survive ! That would make my day :)

Oscar is well taken care of.. I am sure you probably take better care of him then you do yourself :) I know Lil-Lea gets better care than I give myself ! Poor little Diva <grin>
